Plumber Suffers Serious Burn Injuries In an Accident At Work

« Back to News Headlines

A man who suffered serious burn injuries when trying to unblock a sink by using sulphuric acid can now make an accident at work compensation claim.  The accident took place in Bury in Greater Manchester when the victim suffered burn injuries as a result of sulphuric acid reacting with water.  The solution the man was using to unblock the sink was made up of 96% sulphuric acid which reacted with water and caused an explosion.

The explosion caused injuries to the victim’s neck, arm and face.  The injuries were really severe and the victim was not able to resume work for more than two months.

Investigation carried out by the Health and Safety Executive and the Governments revealed that the victim was wearing paper overalls when the accident took place and that he had also not received adequate training at the workplace.  For this reason, the company where he was employed was held liable for the injuries and was fined £5,000 and an additional £2,965 in costs.

Workers who suffer injuries and financial losses as a result of accidents at work may be entitled to make work accident claims.
